EdgeRunner AI Raises $17.5M to Scale Air-Gapped AI Agents for Military and Mission-Critical Applications

EdgeRunner AI, a leader in domain-specific, air-gapped, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, announced the successful closure of a $12 million Series A funding round. This investment, led by Madrona Ventures with participation from Four Rivers Ventures, HP Tech Ventures, and Alumni Ventures, brings the company's total funding to $17.5 million

The capital infusion will accelerate the development and deployment of EdgeRunner's AI agents designed to operate securely without internet connectivity, catering to the unique needs of military and enterprise users. These AI agents are tailored for mission-critical environments, ensuring data privacy, security, and operational efficiency in disconnected or denied settings.

"Our mission is to build domain-specific AI agents that increase the probability of our warfighters winning the fight and bringing them home," said Tyler Saltsman, Co-Founder & CEO of EdgeRunner AI. "With this new funding, we will grow our team, invest in product development, and execute on our vision."EdgeRunner's platform leverages open-source large language models optimized for on-device performance, offering functionalities such as real-time data analysis, decision support, and task automation. The technology is particularly suited for Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent, and Limited (DDIL) environments, where traditional cloud-based AI solutions are impractical

"Tyler and Colton bring an incredible combination of experience—deep service within the U.S. military and federal government—paired with talent, demonstrated by years of building and applying world-class AI technology at AWS and beyond," said Matt McIlwain, Managing Director at Madrona Ventures. "That gives them unmatched insight into what the warfighter needs today, and what the absolute cutting edge of technology can provide. EdgeRunner’s mission—delivering secure, intelligent, air-gapped AI to support those who serve—is one we’re honored to back."

EdgeRunner AI has also been designated as an “Awardable” vendor for the Department of Defense Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office’s (CDAO) Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace, making its platform readily accessible for critical missions across the DoD.
